Truth
Title: Silver Town
Potosi, Bolivia (alt. 4070m). For over four hundred years the mountain in the background has been mined for silver. It is riddled with shafts and currently has two hundred active mines. Since the Spaniards found the locals taking a little silver for ornaments and then discovered it to be one of the richest loads in the world, over eight million people have died in this town. Once the Conquistadors found out just how concentrated the ore was they decided to establish a mint right on site. Mercury was used in the extraction process, accounting for millions of fatalities. In Spain the expression, "It's a Potosi" is still used meaning that something is pure and genuine.
