Printed from the original glass negatives of the 1902-04 Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, this photo was one of a series exhibited by Jane Teresa (when she worked for the Hunterian Museum) in Glasgow in 1978. The Blue Eyed Shag was discovered in Antarctic waters by Pirie (believed to be the man pictured here). Some things have changed enormously (photography methods, cameras, what to wear on a chilly day in Antarctic climes) while others are timeless.
