Title: Looking Out

With a life span of around 400 years these turtles are long-term, permanent residents of the Charles Darwin Research Centre in Puerto Ayora. Without human intervention the introduced predators (dogs, goats, cats) on the islands would quickly decimate the turtle population. Hatchlings are safely bred and released from the Centre, although the older turtles would now never survive on their own.
