Title: Weight for It!
A tough and experienced Bolivian coca vendor, this lady was seen time and again to surreptitiously hand gratis fistfuls of coca to the needy and poverty stricken. She made up the shortfalls with tough negotiations with those who could afford it. As far as we know, coca has been ingested through the mucous membranes of the mouth in South America for at least 6,000 years. It is used to combat the effects of altitude, cold, hunger and fatigue and, notably, we did not see it used other than in altitude. For the record, coca tea was palatable in small doses and quite effective against the symptoms of altitude sickness. Chewing the dry leaf was dreadful.
